Appearance

Hudsons 2800-2819 had boiler tube pilots, obvious domes, and visible feedwater heaters. Hudsons 2820-2864 were identical in dimensions but were semi streamlined with a glossy black jacket to enclose most of the usual external fittings. They had a cowelled stack combined with a smoke deflector, recessed headlight, domeless boiler, and a solid pilot. The sides of the boiler and tender were painted red, the lettering was done in gold, and the wheels were white. The Hudsons were always kept in immaculate condition, regarded as one of the finest locomotives on the rails of North America.
